Sopot is the pearl of the Polish coast — a resort with Europe's longest wooden pier (511 m), the elegant Grand Hotel, the Monte Cassino promenade ("Monciak") and the famous Crooked House. For campervan travellers the city is demanding: there is no campsite within its administrative limits. The best solution is to stay in neighbouring Gdańsk (around Jelitkowo, 3 km from Sopot beach) or Gdynia (Park 45 Campingresort). Camper Park Politechniki Gdańskiej lies 9 km from the pier and is well served by the SKM commuter train — "Gdańsk Politechnika" station is 15 minutes to Sopot. In Sopot itself only short stops are possible at city lots (Łokietka, Reja). Sopot enforces strict access limits for vehicles over 3.5 t in the strict centre. The Tricity SKM runs every 10 minutes and links all three cities — the most convenient way to sightsee. Sopot is perfect for a summer stroll from a camper parked in Gdańsk: the pier, beach, the Forest Opera (summer concerts), restaurants on Monciak. Best season is May–September, but autumn and winter Sopot has a different, nostalgic charm — mist over the Baltic and an empty promenade.
