How much does a campervan trip really cost?

Planning a campervan trip budget can seem complicated at first. The rental price per day is just one part of the equation. Fuel costs, camping fees, road tolls, and food all add up to the total trip cost. That is why we built this comprehensive trip cost calculator β€” to give you a realistic picture of your campervan adventure budget before you hit the road.

The biggest cost advantage of campervan travel comes from combining accommodation and transport into one. You do not need to pay separately for hotel rooms, taxis, and restaurant meals. With a fully equipped kitchen in your Nomad Camper (including a two-burner gas stove, compressor fridge, and full kitchen set), you can prepare your own meals and save up to 70% on food costs compared to eating out every day.

Fuel consumption for our MAN TGE campervan averages 10-12 litres of diesel per 100 km, which is comparable to a large SUV. Diesel prices vary across Europe β€” from about 6.2 PLN/litre in Poland to 8.5 PLN/litre in Scandinavia. The good news? In many European countries, campervans under 3.5 tonnes (like ours) are exempt from road tolls, which can save hundreds of PLN on longer trips.

The average campervan trip costs 30-50% less than an equivalent hotel-based holiday. Use the calculator above to plan your specific route and see exactly how much you can save. Whether it is a weekend trip to the Baltic coast or a two-week adventure through Southern Europe, you will have a clear budget breakdown before you book.

FAQ

Trip costs β€” FAQ

How much does a week-long campervan trip in Poland cost?
A week-long trip with Nomad Camper in Poland costs approximately 5,000-6,500 PLN depending on season. This includes rental (500-590 PLN/day), fuel (~800 km route, about 550 PLN), camping (about 350-500 PLN for 5 nights), and food (about 560-1,120 PLN for 2 people). This is significantly cheaper than hotel + restaurants, which would cost 7,000-10,000 PLN for the same period.
What additional costs should I account for when renting a campervan?
Beyond the rental itself, you should account for: fuel (approx. 11L/100km diesel), camping fees (50-150 PLN/night depending on country), road tolls and vignettes (e.g. Czech Republic, Austria), food, and optional campervan delivery to your pick-up city. The 3,000 PLN deposit is fully refundable. Our calculator accounts for all these costs.
Is travelling by campervan cheaper than hotels?
Yes, typically 30-50% cheaper. A campervan combines accommodation, kitchen, and transport. Cooking in your own kitchen saves up to 70% on food costs compared to restaurants. Plus, no need to book hotels gives you complete travel flexibility.
How much fuel does a MAN TGE campervan use per 100 km?
The MAN TGE campervan consumes an average of 10-12 litres of diesel per 100 km. Consumption depends on driving style, terrain, and load. Our calculator uses an average of 11L/100km, which corresponds to typical use with full load on mixed roads.
What road tolls apply to campervans in Europe?
In Poland, campervans under 3.5t are exempt from road tolls. Same in Germany. However, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria require a vignette (approx. 50-120 PLN for 10 days). Italy, France, and Spain have motorway tolls that can amount to 200-600 PLN depending on route. Scandinavia has no tolls, but ferries can cost 300-800 PLN.
