Katowice is the capital of Upper Silesia and the centre of a metropolitan area of over 2 million residents. The city itself is home to around 290,000 people. Katowice has undergone a remarkable transformation β from an industrial city to a modern cultural and business hub. The Culture Zone with the Silesian Museum, the Spodek arena, Nikiszowiec district β these are places that surprise visitors. Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport serves connections from across Europe, and the location at the junction of the A4 and A1 motorways provides access to all of southern Poland.
Our base is Szczecinek (530 km, about 5.5 hours' drive via the A1 motorway), but for an additional fee we will deliver the MAN TGE campervan to Katowice β to Pyrzowice Airport, your hotel, or any other address. Call: +48 666 607 545 for a transport quote. Due to the distance, we recommend a rental of at least 7 days, which reduces the daily cost.
From Katowice, all of southern Poland opens up. The Silesian Beskids with Wisla and Szczyrk are just an hour's drive away. Zakopane and the Tatras are about 2.5 hours via motorway. West brings Krakow (about 80 km), north Czestochowa with Jasna Gora, and southwest the Czech and Slovak borders. Katowice is an ideal starting point for a campervan mountain tour β the Beskids, Tatras, Pieniny, and even Bieszczady are within a few hours' drive.

Practical tips for campervan travel from Katowice
In Katowice, campervan parking is convenient at large shopping centre car parks (Silesia City Center, Libero) or near the Culture Zone. Camping Dolina Trzech Stawow in the south of the city offers facilities in a forested setting. On the outskirts towards Pszczyna, there are quiet spots by fish ponds. Parking a larger vehicle in the strict city centre can be difficult.
The best season for campervan travel from Katowice is May through October. The Beskids are beautiful year-round, but summer (June-September) offers the best conditions for hiking and mountain driving. Autumn is golden time β fall colours in the Beskids and on the Upland are spectacular. Spring (April-May) brings blooming meadows and fewer tourists on the trails.
Practical tip: from Katowice to the Beskids, take the S1 road to Bielsko-Biala β it is the fastest route. LPG stations are along the A1 and A4 motorways and on national roads. In the mountains, refuel at larger stations β small mountain stops do not always carry LPG. Before departing, stock up at wholesale stores (Makro, Selgros) on the outskirts of the metropolitan area.
